[When Baren asked Zee Carlisle for a full list of names, it was for the same old, usual cagey reasons. Figure out who was on teams apart from his own, pull some shitty move to weasel out some form of leverage to get them to collect information for him, and use it to ensure a steady flow of constant information.

That plan flew out the window immediately when he saw Mimori's name.

Too many dangers flashed through his head for him to function for a moment, paralyzed at the idea of anything possibly happening to her. No one else knew how much she meant to him - except maybe Sanji. And Sanji was with him, not her, thanks to some oversight on Retrospec's part.

So he texted everyone he knew in the group to keep an eye on her, hell or high water.

Because Baren's coping mechanisms are healthy.

When he gets to actually texting her, he hesitates. He wants to tell her to stay on whatever form of transportation took them to their destination. Stay right there and go home. Go home, go find Okuni, stay safe until everything blows over. Don't be a hero, don't be a hero, don't be a hero—]

[ the emotions that hit her when she gets the message are complicated. she feels a little bad for all the people he texts. even before meeting any of them, she could already guess that she probably wouldn't know most of the people in her group just because she doesn't have a lot of friends in general. so them being told to watch out for a stranger might seem a little odd.

if it were anyone else, she'd also feel a little indignant. but with baren, she understands. even if she has abilities and weapons, she's still a child. but more than that, she's also one of the very few things from baren's old life that he got to keep.

and that's why, more than than anything, mimori just feels an overwhelming surge of love for her cousin. what he's doing is dramatic and overprotective, and it's bound to annoy some people, but what's important is that he's going through these lengths for her in the first place. she loves both her cousins and her parents so dearly she could cry, but baren is the one on the network. ]

[To be clear: the second that Chuuya told Baren that they were going back to the city a day earlier than Group 4, Baren called Mimori. If nothing more than to hear her voice, to know that she's going back safe and will be home. He tells her when he's expected to be back and for a little bit, that's enough. To know that she's safe, at home. But he still needs to see her.
